In the reading of The Wealth of Networks, written by Yochai Benkler. The author talks about the difference between the past industrial info economy and the present networked info economy.

For instance, now a day the society has move from mass media to a range of networked platforms, the advantage is to provide an individuals ability to communicate with large audiences and audiences a any location.  The author, Benkler, emphasizes the positive and the advantage effects of the change, in particular the need for advertising or promoting, which include mass media has “been shown in extensive literature to exhibit a series of failures as platforms for public discourse… (and) give their owners inordinate power to shape opinion and information.”

Yet, in the past, where the information and the society are not as convenience as now a day, the society base on the information network economy is equal assess to the information.  Benkler points out that the “declining price of computation, communication, and storage have, as a practical matter, placed the material means of information and cultural production in the hands of a significant fraction of the world’s population” In other word, the network economy has the advantage to grow bigger, better, and self- determinate, which help to organize the liberal ethics.

In the end of the first chapter the author talks about “allowing yesterday’s winners to dictate the terms of tomorrow’s economic competition would be disastrous.  As social policy, missing an opportunity to enrich democracy, freedom, and justice in our society while maintaining or even enhancing our productivity would be unforgivable.” I personally think he is right. I mean it is always easy for people to make judgement or common on thing that already happen in the past. However, it makes me wonder, what will the future society and network economy be like. As well as how will people view us? 

What is Vlogs? It is Video logs, it takes the advantage of web syndication  to allow for the distribution of video over the Internet. In other word, it is a very powerful mass media that influence people’s everyday life. In the past, if people miss their favor T.V show, there aren’t much things you can do to make it up. Because there isn’t much free online video. But now a day, new messages are almost everywhere. For example, YoutTube, google, or media. Each type of the media could provide the new visual look or message. For instance, the web YouTube, it would have a lot of media info that reflect to what the viewer are interest or the newest news or info, such as, election, entertainment as well as viewer’s option. I guess, the purpose of vlogging is to shares a commonality with independent film and video. However, as soon web video become popular and widely available online, almost everyone becomes Vlogger and the video lose it value.

This week i must say, i am having a hard time reading this week’s reading. But after I read it over and over again …. I think i got it .

so….. In the reading of “How Social Production Transforms Markets and Freedom” written by Yochai Benkler, talks about the what a society’s freedom looks like is based on how people make information, how people view the information, how people imply and use these sources, and how people communicate to each other. In other words, he is trying to show how the older industrial information economy and the newer networked information economy are different. Although, the older economic model can allow creation of better wealth for corporations, the networked economy does has the potential to make a lot of freedom as well as helps to support the public values. The author, Benkler, is trying to show the positive effect by point out to the people that it is our choice to decide or choose how to use these informational technologies that the society provide us.

In the context of Web 2.0, it make everyone’s life a lot easier. Especially when people is doing a research. It helps a lot of people save a lot of time and it a lot organize. I guess we can say it like we are addicted to the web 2.0. In other word, Web 2.0 products enable people to become part of people life and communities that do everything from design and create new software, and share knowledge to help people solve global problems. I guess as the society and public are constantly looking for new and better tool or source. The contributors will need to constantly improve.Therefore, I think it must be very hard for all the contributors out there, because their job is like never end. Also it is very kind of these contributors to shared ownership and shared responsibility to make the world a better place.

Sometimes it may seem very easy to talk about copyright. Yet, there are not many people that fallow the copyright laws. I guess it is just like what many people say, “you know the rules before you break the rules.”  We all understand what is right and wrong, but it is our choice to choose what to do. Also sometimes, it is very difficult to judge what is your or not. For example, lets say you brought a DVD movie, and later on you decide to show the movie with everyone around the world, you post the movie on Youtube online. Do you really have the right to do so or are you breaking the copyright low? 

On the other hand, if you check the programs in your own computer, did you pay for all the programs that you have in your computer or did you download them online? Therefore, would you be blaming the person that post the program such as Photoshop and others online and share with everyone and without you spending thousand dollars?

I guess we all know the laws but sometimes it very hard for us not to break them. 

As the new collaboration change the way of people’s habit, the difference between the past and today is that the organizational values, skills, tools, processes are being post and publish the value creation process on the values of the creation process is missing. 

Now a day it is very easy for everyone to put out their voice and information on the web. Somehow I found this could be a problem, because not all the information that is being posts is real. In other word, there is not reference of the message that is being posts.  For instance, if a writer wants to publish his or her writing to the public, there would be editor that look over his or her writing. Yet, not all information online is being check before they are being post.  I guess now a day everyone one is smart enough to judge the message that they see online. And maybe some people just don’t care the value of information online.

        In the reading of Wikinomics, it shows the difference mean of “collaboration” in the past and present. For instance, in the past people view the word “collaboration’’ as a teams, such as in business people collaborate with coworkers at the office, with partners and teams that traverse departmental and organizational silos.

        On the other hand,  the author point out the new collaboration that we have in the society and how it affect the people ‘s life style, value and the power of mass collaboration and behaves not as a multinational but as something new. For instance, due to the new change in society, technology and economy, people are living in a new age. The new age includes new form of mass collaboration.  Such as the new low cost collaboration, which allow thousands upon thousands of individuals designer and small company to produce products, assess to the markets and delight customers in ways that only large corporation could manage in the past. In other word, the is new collaboration has allow the individuals to share knowledge, computing power, and many other resources to the public. These new collaboration not only serve commercial interests, it share new knowledge, information, and others to the world, change how people and societies think.
